Biography of
George Washington & Hannah Shepard Templer



George Washington Templer was born on 6 March 1812 in Loudoun County, Virginia and died 2 June 1886 in Portland, Jay County, Indiana. He married Hannah Shepard Medsker on 30 June 1834 and was a lawyer in Portland, Jay County, Indiana where he moved his family in 1843. Hannah was born 7 May 1816 in Ohio and died in June of 1899 in Portland.

George and Hannah "were among the early pioneers of Jay County, where they entered a tract of land and where the father became a man of influence and local prominence. he was a staunch democrat, was a recognized leader of his party, served his county as justice of the peace, county recorder, county treasurer, coutny commissioner, and in other positions of confidence and trust. He was also a prominent member of the Masonic fraternity, and at his death the Methodist church lost one of its most devoted and consistent members".
